Last September it was agreed that the Dimos of Mykonos would pay 30,000.00 Euro to the vet to cover the expenses and needs of the homeless animals in Mykonos. It was a unanimous vote.
We have struggled through the winter months continuing our work and managing to raise enough money to send more than twenty dogs to Germany and Switzerland at a cost of almost 7,000.00 Euro. That brings the total of dogs sent out of Mykonos last year to about forty.
It has taken months of personal dealings with members of the Town Hall council to finally be prepared for the publication of the 30,000.00 Euro contract.
I went to Mr. Leondarithis at the Town Hall around mid March to check on when the contract would be published and he told me in a couple of weeks. A few short weeks later I passed again to ask if it had been published and I was informed that it had been published and that there had been no response from any vet. I was also informed that our only vet in Mykonos Nikos Triandafilou was not interested in the contract.
After talking later with Mr.Triandafilou I learned that the Town Hall had not contacted him nor was he aware that the contract had been published anywhere and that he was in fact interested. I have no idea where or if this contract was ever published but I have never seen a copy of the publication.
I would like to see this published contract and to know where it was published and for how long. I find it amazing that the one and only vet on the island was not contacted.
It is now necessary for the Town Hall to give the contract to Nikos Triandafilou so we can continue with the work that the Dimos of Mykonos should be doing.
Nothing in fact has changed since last September and the problems are now even worse as we are financially in a very difficult position mainly due to the fact that we had believed that by now this contract would be finalized.
Speaking personally I have to say that I have worked tirelessly for five years for the Dimos of Mykonos and the people and animals that live here and I feel that we are still seeing very little help from the Town Hall.
The work is endless and difficult. To waste so much time and effort with the Town Hall is frustrating and not acceptable.
If the Town Hall do not intend to honour their promise made in September last year then please say so. Wasting my time or the groups time again is not acceptable. We are doing your job and yet you continue to make it more difficult.
I hope this will be resolved immediately otherwise we will not and can not continue. This is Mykonos 2010. We are a rich and famous island and yet the Town Hall continues to live in the past and shamelessly continues to avoid its obligations to the island, the people and the animals.
I expect a quick answer to resolve this situation.

Sharon Graham - President of the Mykonos Animal Welfare.
