AVOIDABLE ACCIDENT

Rex REX lives the “life” of hundreds of thousands of dogs in Greece, just that he had some luck in his misfortune – many others do not !!!

Rex is being tied up for at least twelve long years by now, but somebody must have forgotten to change the size of his collar !!! It had grown into the flesh so badly that the smell of rotten meat was being traced from a distance. Flies had laid their eggs into the wound and it was only a matter of days, according to the vet, for Rex to die.

Once upon a time a young man had brought Rex home, but unfortunately passed away three years ago and Rex was left with his mother who could not care less about Rex.

When we found him, he was skin and bones and his body was covered with big red blotches from infections from tics who had invaded his entire body. If he would not have died of the infection on his neck, the tics would definitely have sucked every drop of blood out of his body. Thanks god the operation on the neck was successful und Rex regained his strengths. His eyes became shiny again and his appetite for live was restoring.

Rex We would have loved to find Rex a new home, but who wants a dog at that age und that condition. Nobody! After a couple of weeks at Mary's Petshop for treatment we had to bring him back to his old live ……….. with the option of returning to hell and a similar health condition as he had when we picked him up.

Since the day of his return we feed, clean, brush, treat and cuddle him almost every day (in the winter every day), so that he is beyond recognition by now. He actually has become a lively and handsome fellow. “Mother”, after she was convinced that Rex is the closest she can get to her prodigal son, and the neighbors chip in some food for him once and a while, but he still is very lonely on his chain tied to a stone box. Chasing some cats is the only action that keeps him fit.

But he will be looked after and cared for till the day he dies. That's a promise!
